Ordering Scans

You can order scans of archival material by email. We encourage you to have a closer look at our online catalog to familiarize yourself with our material.

We offer two qualities of scans. One is high quality (300 dpi) which allows for good reproductions. The other is lower quality. It comes to replace photocopies. These scans are made from photocopies of original manuscripts. Each scan will be 100% legible (assuming it was in the original) but will not be suitable for reproduction.

Please inquire for prices of high-quality scans. Keep in mind that any quoted price does not include the right to use the scans for publication and presentation in public (including websites). If you are interested in acquiring the right to use the scans in public please refer to our Copyright Requests page.

Please be aware that many of our manuscript pages are sealed between so called boPET (biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate) plastic film sheets for their protection. Not yet scanned pages may have to be removed from the protective sheeting for scanning purposes and a new set of sheets will have to be applied. In this case additional costs will incur. The reason for removing the boPET sheet may lie in the fact that the presence of a boPET sheet can weaken the quality of a high resulution scan. The Albert Einstein Archives reserves itself the decision to reject a request for a scan if it involves the removal of the boPET sheet. In some instances removal and replacement of the boPET sheet place a strain on the manuscript and can harm the original material.
